FARM OPEN DAY – EAST YORKSHIRE
THIS EVENT HAS NOW HAPPENED
Alec Dale and Gary Shipley of Huggate Wold, on the Yorkshire Wolds are hosting a farm walk during calving. YES during calving on Wednesday 27th March 2024.
The farm consists of 640 hectares mainly arable with a B&B pig unit and a 60 cow Stabiliser herd.
The 100 hectares that the cows graze is mainly rough grazing and deep dales, land that is unable to be cropped. So, with the Stabiliser breed being able to maintain condition in these areas it was an ideal choice when Alec and Gary decided to start the suckler herd.
The day will enable you to view the ease of management and calving you have with a herd of Stabiliser cows. The 60 cow herd was established in 2016 with the purchase of Stabiliser breeding heifers from local farms and a bull from Scotland.
Hopefully you might have the chance of seeing some cows calve.
Bull calves are left entire and fattened these will be on view, along with a bull and some bulling heifers available for purchase this spring.
The day will start at 10.30am, tea and coffee will be served on arrival. This will be followed with an introduction to Huggate Wold and the Stabiliser breed followed by a walk around the herd.
